Permeable concrete, also known as permeable cement concrete, permeable cement mortar, or permeable pavement, is a specially designed building material with good water permeability. Compared to traditional non permeable concrete, permeable concrete can effectively reduce rainwater runoff and surface waterlogging issues.

In the production of permeable concrete, aggregates with large particles or pore structures are usually used, allowing water to penetrate into the underlying surface or groundwater system through their gaps. In addition, permeable concrete will also add special admixtures to the concrete to enhance its water permeability and maintain sufficient strength and stability.

Permeable concrete is widely used in many fields, such as sidewalks, parking lots, sports venues, parks, squares, and other areas that require drainage functions. It can significantly reduce rainwater runoff, reduce the risk of urban waterlogging, and improve groundwater recharge conditions.

The advantages of permeable concrete include improving hydrological cycling efficiency, reducing rainwater discharge, preventing water pollution, increasing natural cultivation, and improving urban microclimate. However, permeable concrete also has some limitations, such as the possibility of poor drainage during rainfall or harsh conditions, which require appropriate design and maintenance.
